MS & AD Insurance Group Holdings, Inc. (President and CEO: Noriyuki Hara) has joined "Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF)", a global partnership by financial institutions to develop methods to measure and disclose the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions financed by loans and investments .

1. PCAF

PCAF is a global partnership developing methods to measure and disclose financed greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As of December 2021, over 180 financial institutions have joined PCAF globally from 49 countries in North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Australia, and Asia-Pacific.
Tackling climate change is a global issue as agreed on the Paris Agreement since 2015, and climate change initiatives are underway. It is also necessary  for financial institutions to measure and disclose GHG emissions from their investment and underwriting portfolios in order to reduce global GHG emissions.

2. Our Initiatives

We, through our risk solutions business, insurance products and consulting services, tackle climate change in collaboration with our stakeholders including customers, insurance agents and investees.
In addition to joining the PCAF, our group will also join the PCAF Japan coalition which promotes the adoption and expansion of the measurement and disclosure of GHG emissions of financial institutions in Japan.
We will promote the measurement and disclosure of GHG emissions by financial institutions.  And we will also contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society by measuring and disclosing our GHG emissions of investment and underwriting portfolios.
